Caring For Your New Puppy or Kitten
Preventative care is so important for puppies and kittens. By the first two months of life pets should see a veterinarian who will discuss a vaccine schedule, sterilization, and parasite prevention. Since we are committed to your pet’s health, we may also cover important annual milestones that keep your pet on the right track for life.
Vaccinations guard puppies and kittens from deadly diseases and should be started by the first two months of life.
Parasite prevention should be considered from the beginning. Heartworms, fleas, ticks, and intestinal worms are all common parasites. And starting prevention early means you are less likely to miss a step as they get older.
Spay/Neuter Procedure
Spay/Neuter Procedure is recommended for all pets. It promotes a pet’s best heath, and is beneficial for their human family members, too.
- Spaying is a complete ovariohysterectomy of female dogs or cats, or the surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus.
- Neutering is the surgical removal of both testicles in male dogs and cats. Do not fret – it sounds scarier than it is. Your dog won’t miss them!
Spaying or neutering your pet eliminates undesirable sexual behaviors, prevents unwanted litters, increases longevity, and significantly decreases the risk for certain diseases like testicular cancer, as well as mammary and uterine complications. Spay/neuter procedure also makes your pet a more loyal and loving companion to your family!
Microchipping
Losing a pet is a stressful experience. To increase the chances of a happy reunion, we recommend using not only collars and ID tags, but also microchips.
If your pet is ever lost, microchips can help bring him or her home. We typically recommend inserting microchips while your pet is undergoing spay-neuter procedure or getting other routine vaccinations.
Insertion is virtually painless, and will provide your pet with a lifetime of identification! This way, if your lost pet is ever brought to an animal shelter or veterinary facility, their unique identification number can be scanned and you will be contacted right away.
